Julien AIRAULT
Julien AIRAULT is a self-taught French painter and sculptor born in 1979. Initially focused on watercolor painting, drawn to its lightness and technical challenges, his early work in this medium led to successful exhibitions in an expressionist style at a portrait gallery.
He later transitioned to abstract painting, drawing inspiration from both the Chinese art scene of the second half of the twentieth century. He was particularly influenced by post-war painting and the lyrical abstraction movement, where he looked up to renowned artists such as Zao Wou-ki and Chu Teh Chun. Drawing upon his Japanese roots, AIRAULT looks to the renowned Japanese photographer, Hiroshi Sugimoto.
Exploring the captivating mysteries of the Mediterranean Sea at night allows AIRAULT to reconnect with memories from his childhood. Raised by his grandmother, he draws endless inspiration from her, finding a spiritual connection that resonates throughout his work.
His art has captured the attention of collectors by depicting powerful emotional landscapes. It creates unique atmospheres that contrast elements such as serenity and anxiety, tranquility and chaos. AIRAULT deeply engages his viewers with his meditative dreamscapes.
In October 2021, his first monograph, titled "Une abstraction atmosphérique," was released, featuring nearly 200 pages documenting his career.
